Het is een lichtgele tot lichtbruine olieachtige vloeistof. Het heeft een irriterende geur. Oplosbaar in ethanol, chloroform, ether en aromatische organische oplosmiddelen, licht oplosbaar in water.

Wordt gebruikt bij de productie van specerijen, pesticiden en kleurstoffen.
